I am trying to buy fresh masa to make my own tortilla's. Or at the least, buy fresh tortilla's somewhere. I live in the West Village, NYC Anyone know anywhere?

you know i grew up in NYC. grew up spoiled from all the good ethnic food...ACCEPT MEXICAN. if we wanted authentic Mexican food we did it our selves, fortunately my mum was an amazing cook. the style you describe is very much like the food you would get in LA. so you found the real deal. congrats. good stuff, i find it funny to think that all this time its been hiding in Brooklyn somewhere, who knew?

I only live a couple of stops away from this place and Ive been meaning to check it out...thanks for giving me an excuse! I had a different cook, but still, it was awesome. I didnt try the tortas, but I everything I had was amazing and came to $6 (all the better considering I'm watching a Taco Bell commercial right now...ugh.) Anyway, definitely worth a much longer ride than I had!

Um, what's the difference between a Mexican product and a product of Mexico?
I'm jealous of your tortilleria. I just flew back to Boston, land of crap Mexican food, from my hometown of San Diego. I could cry at the lack of real, floury, lardy tortillas out here. So sad.

The white sauce was probably what is just called crema. It's pretty ubiquitous, and readily available in grocery stores with any kind of Latino population around. Crema's closest cousin is creme fraiche, but personally I'll take the crema.

Food looks amazing. The taco truck in Astoria on 30ave is actually down the block from where I live and I've definitely picked up some food there many times (last night I had the grilled steak burrito!). Really good stuff and worth the trip.

Blake, I'm jealous.

This past Sunday I ordered tacos from the back of a bodega in Williamburg. Everyone raved about the place. Both honkies and Mexicans ate there. The meat, pork and chicken, were both so dry that it made me (insert frowny face). At least they sold authentic pork rinds.

Ever been to the taco truck in Astoria?
