2007 Wrap-Up: Slow Posts

8th Jan 2008

While Blake was jetting across the globe last year, I was nestled up in my nice, big apartment in Ohio.  Between planning a wedding and Abby going to grad school, we didn’t have much free time to do much of anything on the weekends.  Which is fine by me. I spent much of the year in the kitchen waiting a long, long time for things to cook.

The spark came from the Perfectionist about how slowly an egg could be cooked.  The reading of the passage coincided with a new job with lots of time in the morning to screw around, so spending an extra ten minutes on breakfast was not a big deal.  It was later expanded by Heston Blumenthal’s In Search of Perfection , which took the slow cooking to an absolute crawl.  And I liked what happened.  I especially liked spending long afternoons creating some fine New Orleans cuisine.  The longer I spent on something, the more I seemed to enjoy myself.

Blake also got into the slow-mo action, taking the first steps towards curing with his duck prosciutto and duck confit.  We’re going to exploring this topic much further in the upcoming year.  You know, anything to stay in the kitchen for as long as possible.
